Jon Kyl’s Not So Factual Facts

April 13, 2011

So if you watch the Daily Show, The Colbert Report, C-Span, or follow current events on Twitter you’ve already heard about Arizona’s junior Senator’s less than honest remarks last Friday on the Senate floor. In the midst of the craziness that was last week’s potential government shutdown claimed that aboritions for “well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does”. Later after the true figure was revealed to be 3% Kyl’s office released this statement, the Senator’s remark was “Not intended to be a factual statement”.

Yes. That is what his office actually gave to the media. Now I’m not saying that Kyl meant to lie to the public, but I am saying that he did in fact lie to the American public on the Senate floor. More than that though he then gave a statement that was made for satire–and he’s gotten just that.

On the Daily Show with Jon Stewart the comedian lights into Kyl while speaking with a correspondent about why the Senator would put himself in this position.

On the Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert had fun with the Senator’s newest catchphrase before launching one of the funniest twitter hastags ever             #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement.

To see some of the funniest of the bunch check out coverage on the Huffington Post and NPR.
